DFW AACC reaches the community
DALLAS FORT WORTH ASIAN-AMERICAN CITIZENS COUNCIL
DFW AACC is one of the sponsors of the blood drive and Asian Bone Marrow Donors Search at the Crow Museum. If you can help, please come to Crow Museum on 1st Saturday between 10am and 2pm.
Help save Judie Gee on 7th of March.
By now most of you have heard about Jodie Gee, the young mother of two who has a rare bone marrow disorder called Severe Aplastic Anemia. In simple terms her bone marrow no longer produces any white or red cell or platelets needed to fight off infection, carry oxygen through her body or control bleeding.
The good news is that a possible donor has been found. The bad news is that there is still a long road ahead and she is not out of the woods just yet. Jodie and her family are waiting for a transplant date and final consent from the donor. But before a transplant can take place, Jodie needs to go through chemotherapy and radiation. And while Jodie waits, she needs 2-3 blood and or platelet transfusions per week.
The Crow Collection of Asian Art is organizing a community blood drive to help Jodie Gee. Representatives from Carter Blood Care will be at the museum to accept blood donations for Jodie from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The museum is located at 2010 Flora Street between Harwood and Olive, in the downtown Dallas Arts District.
But we need your help. We need to find community organizations to partner with the Crow to help get the word out and to get members of the Asian community to come together for this worthy cause. The blood drive will take place during the Crow Collection’s Family Day series which takes place on the first Saturday of every month. The program is free and open to the public.
This month’s activities focus on the Japanese Doll Festival and will include a traditional Girls’ Day doll display, Japanese arts and crafts including fish printing and origami demonstrations. Throughout the afternoon visitors will also have an opportunity design their own kimono and learn about Japanese dolls and Japanese puppet theater. At noon there will be Japanese storytelling followed by a showcase from the Dallas Zoo.
I am encouraging folks to make this a family event. Come to the free museum, bring your kids to celebrate Asian culture and spend a few minutes to help Jodie by donating blood.
We hope to get multiple organizations to get involved to make this a city-wide, multi-ethnic push. We need to call attention to the urgent need for blood and bone marrow donors of Asian descent. Asians fall behind when it comes to being donors – yet our needs are as great if not greater than that of other minorities.
Please let me know if your organization will partner with the Crow to help the Gee family.
