Session 1.  April 18th - Speaker: Bill Toti, SAS Deputy to Vice President Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Systems

Leading in the Workplace and Community – How to develop your leadership skills by helping others

Reviews how Asian Americans can develop their personal and professional leadership skills by engaging beyond life’s given responsibilities.


Session 2.  May 9th - Speaker: Lothar Katz, President, Leadership Crossroads

Perception - How Asians are viewed by others and how they can influence these views

Looks into common stereotypes that mainstream Americans may have about Asians. Discusses how these stereotypes affect lives and careers, and what behaviors Asians may employ in order to change the way others perceive them.

Session 3.  June 20th - Speaker: Art George, Senior VP, Texas Instruments

Career development - How to promote yourself at work 

Explains why self-promotion is much more important in the United States than in most Asian cultures, and discusses how to do it effectively in the American workplace, including aspects like mentoring.

Session 4.  July 11th - Speaker: Ram Rao, Professor, UTD
Management - How to successfully lead people

Discusses how people management and leadership styles are different between America and many Asian countries, and what makes an effective manager / team leader in the U.S.


Session 5.  August 15th - Speaker: Linda Kao, Assistant Dean of Global Operations for the Cox School of Business, SMU

Solving problems How to succeed in life and at work by turning problems into opportunities

Takes a look at how Asians can deal effectively with obstacles and open new doors by focusing on opportunities and keeping a positive attitude


Session 6.  September12th - Speaker: Jack Miao, Principal Partner of Jack Miao & Associates

Handling Conflict – How to deal effectively with opposition and push-back

Addresses ways in which Asian Americans can, at work and outside, overcome opposition from others and resolve conflicts in a productive fashion.

Session 7.  October 17th - Speaker: TBD

Influencing Successfully – How to win support from others

Presents strategies and tactics to win support from colleagues & bosses and discusses effective ways of influencing individuals and teams to reach the desired decisions


In total, there are seven sessions (once a month, on Fridays from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Nortel Auditorium in Richardson). Lunch sandwiches will be provided free of charge. A Certificate of Graduation will be awarded to those who attend at least 4 of 7 sessions.
